What is the cheapest type of fence?
The cheapest type of fence that will still look good (i.e. not chain link or hog wire!) is probably a pine wood fence. The panels can be chemically treated to resist pests and weathering to make this type of fence more durable. Wooden fences in general are the cheapest.
Is Colorbond fencing cheaper than wooden fencing?
No. Colorbond fencing is usually about 30% more expensive than timber. However, keep in mind that there are basically no upkeep costs for Colorbond fencing, whereas a wooden fence will certainly require some repairs or refinishing within 10 years.
Can you put up a fence by yourself?
You can, but that doesn’t mean you should! The attraction is understandable – you save all the cost of labour. But remember, a good fence contractor has a team of experienced professionals to work on your fence installation. They’ve done this before. If you haven’t, you could be in for a shock when you realize how much work is involved. And if you’re not experienced in construction, can you be sure you’ve got the right materials and that you are installing the fence correctly? If not, you may end up paying someone else in the end to fix your mistakes.
Do you have to have a fence around a pool?
Yes. Any above ground or below ground swimming pool needs a fence around it. The details may vary from state to state, but in all cases it needs to be at least 1200mm high and at least 900mm from any nearby objects that could be used to climb over it. Any gaps in the fence must be no more than 100mm wide, and the gate must swing away from the pool.
Who pays for a dividing fence?
A dividing fence is the joint property of the two property owners whose property it divides. So, the cost of constructing or repairing the fence up to the standard of a ‘sufficient fence’ (as defined by local code) is shared between the owners. If one owner wants to improve the fence beyond the standard of a sufficient fence, they may do so at their own cost.
Functionality at it's finest
There are many ways that fences provide value. A fence with a sturdy gate can be the first line of security for your home against intruders. A fence can provide privacy for your family. A fence can keep your pets in and keep other’s pets out. It can help to shield you from noise and wind. Or a fence can simply define the boundaries of your property or different areas within your property such as the pool or garden. The type of fence you get will depend on your needs.
Regardless of the objective, there are some issues that a good fence contractor will help you to consider. Will the fence block views that you do or do not want it to block? And what about noise? If the fence is meant to keep people or animals out of an area, will it do so successfully? Perhaps most importantly, will the design be aesthetically pleasing and will it harmonise with the style of your home or property?
